Mrs. Jean Costello

Mrs. Costello came to Bonny Oaks in 1952. She was housemother to many of the boys and girls before becoming the Bonny Oaks Librarian in the early 1960's. One of Mr. Adamson's first assignments for Mrs. Costello was to put the boxes of photographs, that he kept in his office, into Scrapbooks.

The links below follow the yearly structure of the CD's containing the photographs. Due to the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Bicentennial Library's requirements for a scanning resolution of 300, the images on the CD's are at a 300 Resolution. To make the images Internet Ready for the website, they were re-sampled (re-sized) down to about a 75 Resolution.

As you view the images, some will be larger or smaller than others. Loading time for viewing on your computer will vary depending upon your modem speed, DSL or Cable connections.

The Scrapbooks collectively contained 389 pages (page size 11x18), but there were over 800 photographs! For better viewing, each picture is cropped out and given a page of it's own. Some of the group pictures provide an even closer view of the children's faces. If a picture had any writing alongside it, the writing was kept with the picture. If it made the picture smaller, then a close up was done to see the children's faces. If you see a picture that you want to view at a larger file size, send me an email and I can manipulate them for your purposes.
